If you’ve ever wondered how reposting hurts artists- yesterday I found a post from 2012ish featuring one of my Sherlock/Doctor Who pieces. That post had 17,604 notes. It wasn’t my post. My post of that art had 0 notes.

Apparently I saw the post once when it was at 6k because an artist I admired reblogged it, but at that stage I was very unwell & not experienced enough with Tumblr to realise what effect it might have.

Looking through the notes now I see that in the six years since then-

  • Several people got the design as a tattoo.
  • A number liked it enough to want custom designs but didn’t know how to contact me so that’s approximately £300 I didn’t get a chance to earn.
  • Someone used that art in the front cover of a comic by accident and while the company fixed it after I contacted them that’s exposure that it’s far too late to capitalise on now.

If you like an artwork that you find off tumblr, please, please I am begging you search for the artist’s name and see if they do actually have a Tumblr you could reblogged from instead. If you’re an artist search your username(s) every so often to see if your work has been taken.

A few hundred quid might not seem like a lot, but that’s a few months of income for me

This is the thing I made a speedpaint of, even if it is not completed HERE

Danny Fenton (supernatural being and half time hero) meets local paranormal investigators Dipper and Mabel Pines and is immediately worried for the safety of these two kids!! They are normal non powered humans that go against things that crawl in the night!! Who lets them go around doing this kind of stuff without supervision?? Is this how Jazz felt when he started going out as Phatom?? Because it sucks!!

Dipper in that first pic is seriously considering exorcising this man, half living human or not.

Danny is just the annoying mom friend that is totally not feeling super old when he goes around trying to protect these kids from themselves.

Mabel is just chill about everything, I mean she knows how to deal with this kind of stuff, and if not she can always try to punch them in the face!

I want to be rich enough to leave $100 tips

I want to be rich enough to solve my friends life problems.

“Money doesn’t fix everything” but it can pay off my coworkers car so she can leave her abusive husband. It can buy gas money and bus tickets and pay rent and cover medical expenses and just.

It wouldn’t fix everything but it would provide a great first step and it’s so frustrating when the solution is so plain to see but completely unattainable and maybe I’m being naive but that’s just the mood for today lads.

Money doesn’t fix everything but being poor sure can fucking BREAK a lot of shit.

I’ve seen several people being like “ummmmmmmmmmm nobody was mad that a cis man playing a pre op trans woman on oitnb” it was literally Laverne’s twin brother who she personally asked to do it so as not to trigger her dysphoria like do you not see how that’s an entirely different situation

Um, it’s better than that actually. Laverne was totally willing to do it because that’s her job as an actress (although it could have triggered dysphoria) but the directors didn’t want to put her through that when she so happened to have a convenient twin brother because like how often do you get that lucky?

So on the one hand you have filmmakers utterly disregarding trans people’s experience and just doing whatever the fuck they want. And on the other hand you have filmmakers being very aware of trans issues and caring so much about a trans woman’s wellbeing that they didn’t want to put her through something potentially triggering when it wasn’t necessary. Big difference.
